Joe Forber on Coaching

Joe’s article was presented to all coaches in the Magic and Mystics programme to encourage them to think more deeply about their coaching philosophy.

It was not designed to tell them how to coach. Joe was a Founder Member of the Club in 1996, alongside his wife, Maggie, and Coach Graham Williams.

He spent many years coaching in the Boys programme and latterly has overseen the redevelopment of the Girls programme.

Coach Olli

Mystics juniors get new director of coaching

Manchester Mystics have appointed Aurimas Verbukas as its new Director of Girls’ Coaching.

Aurimas, aka Coach Ollie, has been part of the coaching team at the Amaechi Basketball Centre since 2014, when he joined us from London club Newham All Stars Sports Academy.

In that time, the 32-year-old Lithuanian has played a key role in the club’s success, guiding a number of teams to national titles as well as helping develop many talented players.

“I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to lead the Mystics junior programme,” said Aurimas, who starts his role immediately. “I look forward to working with the club to continue our success.”

Joe Forber, co-founder of the Manchester Mystics, said: “Ollie has worked terrifically hard since he came to the club, showing a real dedication to the improvement of the boys and girls within our programme.

“He fully deserves this promotion and we look forward to substantially improving the girls’ programme in the next few years.’

Aurimas will also head the girls’ programme at Loreto College, overseeing its participation in the Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League.

iCoachKids

iCoachKids

iCoachKids is a three-year project designed to improve the education and development of children and youth coaches across the European Union.

Led by Manchester Magic coach Sergio Lara-Bercial, a senior research fellow in sport coaching at Leeds Beckett University and the International Council for Coaching Excellence, iCoachKids aims to give coaches and parents the resources they need to:

  • make sport a positive experience for children;
  • maximise a child’s chances of fulfilling their potential on and off the court.

Co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, iCoachKids has already created an interactive online platformwhere youth sport coaches can share and learn from each other.

For more information about the project, visit the official website at www.icoachkids.eu and follow @iCoachKidsEU on Twitter.
