The Manchester Mystics U16 were crowned U16 Girls National Cup Champions after victory in the Final against Ipswich on Saturday morning at the National Basketball Performance Centre.

MVP honours went to Mystics’ Irene Oboavwoduo, the talented guard closed with a team-high 23 points (10/16 FGs) to go with six rebounds, five assists and four steals, supported by 18 points by Elizandra Costa plus 14 points and six steals from Alexandra Hernandez.

Manchester Magic U16 71–64 London Lions – Cup Final

The Manchester Magic U16 were crowned U16 Boys National Cup Champions after victory in the Final against London Lions on Saturday afternoon at the National Basketball Performance Centre.

MVP honours went to Magic captain Jack Walton, who had a team-high 17 points to go with five assists, five steals and three rebounds. Ronney Ani added 14 points, Spike Noden had 13, and Demi Babaloba went to work on the glass to collect 10 rebounds to go with nine points.

Manchester Mystics’ Academy, U18 and WNBL D2 player Esha Nayar has written an article for FocusHoops on the lack of representation of South Asian Women in Sport.

Women in sport is a highly topical conversation. Over the past couple of years, the number of women in sports has increased significantly in comparison to previous years. In the past, the main sports in which women’s participation has been discussed is in the more typically feminine sports such as gymnastics or dance, whereas in the past 5 years, sports which are seen as more masculine, such as football or rugby, have seen an increase in popularity with females.
