Hinds, Lee and Cleary selected for GB selection camp in June

Manchester Mystics duo Ashana Hinds, Khia Lee (U16 Girls) and Magic’s Kaiyem Cleary (U18 Boys) have been selected for inaugural Great Britain selection camp in June ahead of the FIBA U16 & U18 European Championships this summer.

Following on from the successful conclusion of the second National Junior Training Camps (NJTCs) in Birmingham, Leicester and Manchester on Wednesday, 68 England players have been selected across four age-group categories: U18 men (18), U18 women (17), U16 boys (17) and U16 girls (16).

They shall now vie with their Scottish and Welsh counterparts for the honour of representing GB later this year.

Wales trio

Magic trio still in hunt for Wales U16 spots

Manchester Magic’s Sion Gordon and brothers Ben and Luke Gordos have made it through the latest selection round as Wales Under-16s continue to build for this summer’s Fiba European Championships.

The trio are in a 17-strong line-up, with further cuts to come ahead of the July 23-30 tournament in Andorra.

Wales, who are coached by Magic’s Aurimas Verbukas (aka Coach Ollie), are in Division C and play group rivals Armenia, Gibraltar, Malta and Moldova.

Mystics youngsters impress at England camp

Manchester Mystics duo Khia Lee and Ashana Hinds have been selected to attend a second England training camp in April after impressing this week.

The U16 pair were assessed on their tactical/technical skills, physical attributes and attitude at a three-day camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue.

This week’s camp is the first of two for England’s U16 and U18 players prior to selection for next summer’s Great Britain squads for the FIBA European Championships.

Each home nation will nominate players for the first GB camp in June.

Mystics U16 duo to attend England training camp

Manchester Mystics U16 duo Ashana Hinds and Khia Lee will attempt to catch the eye of selectors when they attend an England training camp next week.

The talented teenagers will be among 58 players across four age groups taking part in a three-day camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue.

Next week’s camp is the first of two that will go a long way to determining which girls will be selected for Great Britain’s U16 and U18 squads for next summer’s European Championships.

Haris Tournament

England U18 squad announced for Haris Tournament

Deng Camp stars Zion Tordoff, Kayne Henry-McCalla, Micah Savery-Richards and Caleb Fuller all feature in England’s U18 squad for next week’s Haris Tournament at the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester.

Worthing Thunder’s 6ft 6in centre Hosana Kitenge, who has only just turned 16, is also named in a 12-man line-up for the eight-team tournament that runs from 27-29 December.

Joining England in the competition are Ireland U18s, Derby Trailblazers, City of Edinburgh, Sligo All Stars, Worcester Academy (US), Nova School (Spain) and hosts Manchester Magic.

You can watch all three days of action for just £10. Alternatively, you can turn up on the day and pay £3 for Tuesday’s games, £4 for Wednesday and £5 for Thursday.

Magic quartet make cut for next England camp

Manchester Magic players Kaiyem Cleary (U18), Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo (U17), Greg Wild and Saul May (both U15) have been invited to attend the next England camp in April.

All four had a chance to show off their skills during a three-day training session at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Belle Vue.

This week’s training camp was also the first of two for England’s U16s and U18s prior to selection of Great Britain’s men’s squads for the FIBA European Championships next summer.

All the home nations will nominate U16 and U18 players for the first GB camp in June.

GB Women miss out on place at EuroBasket

GB Women suffered a 71 -52 defeat against Italy in Lucca on Saturday night ending their hopes of a place at this summer’s EuroBasket. Mystics’ Georgia Jones played 20 minutes had 5 points, 3 assists and a steal.

GB finished their schedule of qualifiers with a 55 – 97 victory over Albania in Tirana on Wednesday night to finish 3rd in Group C with 3 wins and 3 losses. Georgia Jones played 17 minutes had 2 points and 2 assists while Dominique Allen played 10 minutes and had 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Mystics invited to GB Women’s training camp for EuroBasket Qualifiers in November

Mystics’ Dominique Allen and Georgia Jones selected in the final 16 players invited to the GB Women’s training camp for the upcoming EuroBasket Qualifiers in November. The squad also includes former Mystic Mollie Campbell. GB face two away ties against Italy (at Palatagliate, Lucca, Italy on Saturday 19th November) and Albania (at Tirana, Asllan Rusi, Albania, on Wednesday 23rd November), both games are away, needing victory in Italy to keep their hopes alive of making it to EuroBasket in Czech Republic

Mystics trio selected in GB squad

Manchester Mystics trio Dominique Allen, Rheanne Bailey and Georgia Jones have been selected in GB’s initial squad for November’s EuroBasket qualifiers against Italy and Albania. Both games are away, with GB needing victory in Italy to keep their hopes alive of making it to the finals in Czech Republic

Magic and Mystics players get England call

Magic’s Aaron Martin, Josh Grant, Saul May and Greg Wild and Mystics’ Ashana Hinds and Khia Lee have been selected in the initial England Under 15/16 Squads following the Under 15 Regional Development Tournament.

There is a new development for the 2016/17 season in that all youth national teams will compete at the European Championships as Great Britain. The final selection for Great Britain Youth Teams will be in 2017, with the exact date to be confirmed closer to the day.

The camp in December will help to select 16 players for U16 England National programme who will be considered for the Great Britain U16 programmes and European Championships in 2017.
