Kaiyem Cleary

Silver for Kaiyem Cleary and the GB U18 squad at European Championships

Magic’s Kaiyem Cleary was selected in the final 12 of the GB Under 18 Mens squad for the FIBA Under 18 Mens European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, where the team claimed the silver medal in the final after going down to Croatia in overtime.

Magic’s Sion Gordon, Ben Gordos, Luke Gordos and Fredric Rouse were selected in the final 12 of the Wales Under 16 Boys squad for the FIBA Under 16 Boys European Championships in Andorra. The Team are led by Magic’s Aurimas Verbukas (aka Coach Ollie).

Mystics’ Beth McLoughlin has been selected in the final 12 of the Wales Under 16 Girls squad for the upcoming FIBA Under 16 Girls European Championships in Gibraltar.

Gina Brierley

Mystics Alumni Brierley’s progress with GB Under 20s at European Championships

Mystics Alumni Gina Brierley was selected in the final 12 of the GB Under 20 Women’s squad for the FIBA Under 20 Women’s European Championships in Israel.

Gina came through the Manchester Mystics’ junior programme and represented the senior team in the WBBL before heading to the US to attend Saint Leo University as a Freshman last year.

Hinds, Lee and Harwood-Bellis make GB U16 training squad

Congratulations to Manchester Mystics juniors Ashana Hinds, Khia Lee and new recruit Rebecca Harwood-Bellis, who have all been named in Great Britain’s Under 16 training squad ahead of the FIBA European Championships.

The first of the selection camps was held at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester over the weekend of 24-25 June.

After two days of training and team building, GB coaches selected the players they want to make up the boys’ and girls’ ‘training squads, as they prepare for the various FIBA European Championships this summer.

Magic’s May and England U15s finish third in Copenhagen

Manchester Magic’s Saul May helped England U15 Boys claim the bronze medal at the Copenhagen Invitational Tournament.

In the group stages, England finished with three wins out of three to advance to the semi-finals.

They beat Swedish side Malbas 82 – 56 on Thursday, followed by victories over Iceland Blue (72 – 50) on Friday and Denmark Red (90 – 78) on Saturday.

This set up a semi-final match-up against Estonia on Saturday afternoon.

They lost 58 – 83 but beat Sweden Blue 86 – 57 on Sunday to claim third place.

Kaiyem Cleary makes GB U18 training squad

Congratulations to Manchester Magic’s Kaiyem Cleary, who has been selected for Great Britain Under 18 Men’s training squad in preparation for this year’s FIBA European Championships.

The first GB Under 18 selection camps were held at the Leicester Sports Arena over the weekend of 17-18 June.

After two days of training and team building, British Basketball announced the list of players selected by the coaching staff for the GB U18 Men’s and Women’s Training Squads, ahead of the various FIBA European Championships this summer.

Magic’s Saul May selected in England U15 squad for Copenhagen Tournament

Congratulations to Manchester Magic junior Saul May, who has been selected to represent England U15 Boys at this month’s Copenhagen Invitational Tournament.

England will be looking to defend the title which they won last year and will start their defence with a tough match up against Malbas (Sweden) on Thursday 15th June at 6:00pm (local time).

They will then move on to play Iceland Blue on Friday 16th at 5:00pm and Denmark Red on Saturday 17th at 11:00am, with placing games on Saturday and Sunday.

Mysitcs’ Jones and Allen added to GB squad for second GB camp

Congratulations to Mystics’ Georgia Jones and Dominique Allen who has been added to the GB squad to attend Great Britain Senior Women’s training camp.

Great Britain head coach Jose Maria Buceta has tinkered with his squad and announced five exciting additions for a second preparation camp which started yesterday in Manchester.

The squad will travel to France to continue their preparation ahead of the qualification campaign for the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019 Qualifiers which starts during November.

Talented teenage trio earn GB call-ups

Kaiyem Cleary, Ashana Hinds and Khia Lee have all been nominated to attend Great Britain training camps in preparation for this year’s FIBA European Championships.

Kaiyem played for Manchester Magic’s Senior and Under 18 teams this season, while Manchester Mystics duo Ashana and Khia were key members of the club’s Under 18 and Under 16 teams.
